Emergency Funding for Students Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

The John Amico School of Hair Design/Niles School of Cosmetology grateful to have the opportunity to deliver extra financial support to qualifying students during this exceedingly difficult pandemic. The federal government recently passed the CARES Act, which allocates emergency relief funding for eligible college students across the country to address pressing needs of students due to the disruption of campus operations.

If you are a John Amico School student eligible for financial aid and John Amico School of Hair Design/Niles School of Cosmetology had to modified education and operations due to COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted your personal financial situation, you can apply to receive a multiple sum of money in several payment, up to $1700 each student depending on the length of the course, unforeseen COVID-19 hardships and time left on your course at John Amico School qualified expenses. Although the money is funded by the federal government, individual colleges are managing the application and approval process, and the distribution of funds according to their own policies. Additional funding is limited, and a second or third award may be available based on the level of student needed based on unforeseen COVID-19 issues.

Guidance from the U.S. Department of Education
Institutions have received and will continue to receive guidance for each allocation share of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund from the U.S. Department of Education.  Added eligibility criteria by the U.S. Department of Education, enforceable effective June 17, 2020, is that students selected to receive funds from the CARES Act HEERF Students Emergency Grant, must meet section 484 of the Higher Education Act (HEA).  Section 484 of the HEA states that Title IV eligible students must:

  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in approved DOE program.
  • For currently enrolled students making and meeting satisfactory academic progress and have not withdrawn or terminated as the date of funds release.
  • Not owe an overpayment on Title IV grants or loans.
  • Not be in default on a Title IV loan.
  • File “as part of the original financial aid application process” a certification that includes
    • A statement of educational purpose.
    • Student’s SSN.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or national, permanent resident, or another eligible noncitizen.
  • Have returned fraudulently obtained Title IV funds if convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to charges.
  • Not have fraudulently received Title IV loans in excess of annual or aggregate limits.
  • Have repaid Title IV loan amounts in excess of annual or aggregate limits if obtained inadvertently.
  • Have Selective Service registration verified?
  • Have Social Security Number verified?
  • Not have a federal or state conviction for drug possession or sale, with certain time limitations.

 

  1. John Amico School of Hair Design acknowledges that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and assures that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
  2. 50% of the total amount of funds that the institution has received as of 12/16/20 from the Department will be issuing to students pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Student is estimated at $28, 855.00.
  3. The 1st total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants that was distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of 3/31/21 was $11,500.00.
  4. The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act will be approximately 40 students.
  5. The first funds issued was total number of students is 23 who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act since we have received the funds, we issued funds on 3/31/21.
  6. The seconds funds issued was total number of students is 11 who have received $1200 each as an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act since we have received the funds, we issued funds on 7/30/21 was $13,200
  7. The total amount that has been issues was $24,700. The Balance being issued is $4,155.00 to students who qualify as of 3/20/22.
  8. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is as follows:
  9. a) The number of students that were eligible for Federal Student Aid and for those students who are eligible for financial yet have not receive any funds or did not have an EFC because they did not apply for Federal Funds but are eligible as an American Citizens.
  10. b) As of 12/23/20 all currently enrolled US Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen students in any Title IV approved program that answer YES on the Student HEERF Survey to having incurred additional expenses due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Distance Education. To include any students that Graduated on or after 12/23/20 and any student returning from an approved Leave of Absence. Should any of these students withdraw prior to the school issuing the grant funds they will be exempt from receiving the funds under the Cares Act. Those funds will be re-allocated to current students. We will conduct a current final eligible student count once the funds are issued by the school.

The funds issued was $2455.00 to the student by the Cares Act as of 7/30/21

Note: Per the DOE, if any of the students are on not meeting SAP, they are not eligible for the HEERF Grant, even if they meet the other criteria.

Beginning on March 31, 2021 was issued to all students who in school and in need funds to complete their courses.

Under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act

Dear Current Student or Recent Graduate (March 16, 2020 or later), Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act the US Government has ratified the CARES Act which allows for government grants to be issued to students who qualify. Once the grants are received by the Schools, they will be processed and distributed to the students based upon the school's developed policy. In order to expedite these grant funds to be distributed to you, it is imperative that we have your most current contact information and that you agree to utilize those funds as per the U.S. Department of Education. Completion of this survey DOES NOT guarantee that you are eligible to receive grant funds. However, this survey must be completed to determine your eligibility.

To include any students that Graduated on or after 12/16 /2020 and any student on an approved Leave of Absence. Should any of these students withdraw prior to the school receiving the grant funds they will be exempt from receiving the funds.

Those funds will be re-allocated to current students. We will conduct a current final eligible student as funds are dispersed by the school.

Note: Per the DOE, if any of the students are not meeting SAP, they are not eligible for the HEERF Grant, even if they meet the other criteria. · Student is in an active enrollment status as of 12/16/20. Student is meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).  Students whose education was not disrupted and was put on long term ONLINE classes will not qualify.

 

The U.S. Department of Education has made Emergency Financial Aid Grants available for Title IV eligible students of our institution who need financial support for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to Coronavirus.

 

This application permits students to apply for these need-based grants. Campus administration will use the information you provide here to determine your eligibility for a grant and the amount for which you will be eligible. Each student will be eligible for one grant. Students with extraordinary financial need and hardship may separately apply for an additional discretionary grant; determinations on any additional grant will be made by the campus administration based on all circumstances, including relative need and available funds.

 

Please fill out this information neatly and completely and provide it to your campus Financial Aid Officer. Only active students who are participating in courses actively and who are in good standing will be eligible to receive a grant.

A COPY OF THIS FORM IS IN YOUR FILE AND MUST BE FILLED OUT WHILE PUNCHED IN ON THE TIME CLOCK WHILE IN ATTENDANCE ON CAMPUS. In order to receive funds, you must bring in a totally completed filled out the day of your appointment. Appointments are booked during that period. See the front desk to book your appointment.
