JA Celebrates 50 Years in Business and Marriage

50 years of love and learning...

There's something to be said for spending time with family. I just returned from a long weekend in the Caribbean on a Princess cruise. This time, I left my JA family at home too instead travel with the Amico family. All of my children, their spouses, best man and maid of honor and others joined me and Elaine to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

It was a relaxing, refreshing and a quality time. Each night we had dinner for 16 and had a great time telling stories of the past and present. My children each did a speech the night of our anniversary “how it was growing up with mom and dad”. A bit of sweet, sour and really a “mini roast” of mom and dad. What else would you expect from the Amicos?

So as I reflect back on my 50 years of marriage and MORE THAN 50 years in business, I find that there are definitely some similarities in both.

First, education (Change occurs daily. You must be open to learn and then share your knowledge.)

As time passes, you definitely get older and wiser in marriage. I am lucky to have the greatest wife in the world and she has taught me how to be a great husband! In our business, we all need teachers. We are proud to provide you with so many opportunities to grow in our industry. From John Amico School of Hair Design students to our graduates many who are still working for us 40 years later like Barb Boxler. To see all of them grow has been rewarding. Cosmetology and Beauty School Education is a process so we remain consistent from our annual salon cruise to Beauty Success Camp to Chicago, Chicago. In June, we will be hosting our annual Beauty Salon and Cosmetology School Success Quest-two days of hands-on training for leaders. If you are a JA Cosmetology School Educator, Chapter President or are just interested in learning more, THIS is a must-attend for you!

Second, quality. (Raising the bar.)

The quality of your relationship is directly related to the time and effort you put into it. I believe that wholeheartedly and we take that same approach to everything we do retail, service, beauty schools and salons.

Third, hard work. (Always takes longer than you think.)

Yes. I said it. Marriage is hard work but there is nothing more worthwhile. We put that same effort into our approach to the beauty industry. That's why you'll always experience the utmost in personal service from the Amicos. Our Cosmetology School Students, Beauty School Educators, and even our shipping staff go that extra mile because we can and more importantly because it's the right thing to do.

Finally, commitment. (If you say it, mean it, live up to your word.)

Fifty years of marriage shows a lot of commitment. I couldn't have done it alone. The teamwork that Elaine and I enjoy is phenomenal and it truly has made all the difference. At JA, we are completed committed to our members too. We succeed when you do and we will always be here to help you in every way possible. Fifty years in Salon, Cosmetology School, the John Amico Professional Products business and staying totally only for the professional. Thanks to all of you for your support.

Fifty years of marriage. 52 years in business. Some might think that makes us “old,” I prefer to think it has made us really, really wise. We are never retiring, only re- energizing for the next students, client or beauty show. And I'm thrilled to be able to share that wisdom with all of you!
